On May 1, the United States celebrates Law Day, a day dedicated to the rule of law. President Eisenhower instituted Law Day in 1958. In his official Proclamation, he says:
“…the principle of guaranteed fundamental rights of individuals under the law is the heart and sinew of our Nation…”

This nation is built on the rule of law. It’s no wonder we have elected 26 lawyer-presidents. On this Law Day, we are celebrating them all – from John Adams to Barack Obama.
It is customary for the president to issue a proclamation on Law Day each year. You can read past proclamations on the Library of Congress website here.
