On May 1, the United States celebrates Law Day, a day dedicated to the rule of law. President Eisenhower instituted Law Day in 1958. In his official Proclamation, he says:
“…the principle of guaranteed fundamental rights of individuals under the law is the heart and sinew of our Nation…”
-1958, Law Day Proclamation
This nation is built on the rule of law. It’s no wonder we have elected 26 lawyer-presidents. On this Law Day, we are celebrating them all – from John Adams to Barack Obama.
It is customary for the president to issue a proclamation on Law Day each year.
