Walking in Lincoln’s Footsteps

Walking in Lincoln’s Footsteps

This summer we’re traveling throughout the Midwest and the South, walking in Abraham Lincoln’s footsteps. We’re visiting a wide range of Lincoln sites – from his humble beginnings in Kentucky and Indiana to his life as an established lawyer and politician in Illinois. Plus, we’ll be hitting any other interesting historical spots along the way. Join us as we explore the places that made Abraham Lincoln.

First stop – Alton, Illinois

In our first road trip video, we’re visiting Alton, Illinois. Lincoln can be found throughout this small river city on the banks of the Mississippi. Here, we see statues commemorating the site of the last Lincoln-Douglas debate. We also see the site of Lincoln’s near duel, as well as the memorial to Elijah P. Lovejoy. We also check out a local, historical favorite, the Piasa Bird cliff painting.
